Two houses in one
Situated on a small parcel of land in a dense suburban area, this house presents a wall-like façade at the entry which provides a buffer between the street and the life inside. The house has a simple cubic form and an intricate plan and section. The rooms within are separated by interstitial zones that serve primarily as circulation spaces and light wells. These volumes travel vertically through the house. They wrap around the large corner space which houses the living room and library, disengaging it from all the other rooms and treating it as an independent and unique element. Thus the concept of two buildings in one is rendered visible and reinforced by the façade-like, curved wall and living room window, which overlook this 'interior street'.
